Pilgrim selection process.

As the journey takes much effort, only physically fit persons are counted eligible for that. People who want to visit here must be void of medical conditions such as diabetes, asthma, high blood pressure, epilepsy, and any major heart disease. 

The pilgrims go through a computerized selection process by MEA. Selected ones get informed 3-4 weeks before the journey and usually go with a meticulous batch. After selection, they go through 2 more medical tests and one more test to find out their reactions to altitude trekking. 
The last test is done at Gunji after 5 days of yatra when the travelers have scaled around 3500 meters. Pilgrims are allowed for further journeys only if they are found medically fit.

Keep in mind.

• Carry your own medicines and first aid kits.

• Pack woolen and specific other clothes as per the guideline.
• To avoid dehydration during mount climbing, drink enough water.
• Eat carbohydrate-rich light food.
• Take breaks between journey and rest when you feel tired.
• Avoid alcohol and cigarette during your journey and keep dehydration at bay.
• Not doing the arduous activity and slow climbing is best to skip altitude sickness.
• The cost of hiring a porter with a horse is RMB 800 and RMB 2400 respectively.
• Since it is located in China occupied geographical area, you better take your passport with you.

• Take mountaineer shoes, kneecaps, crampons, quick-dry inner wears, other accessories like hat, sunglasses, gloves, energy-boosting food, wet wipes, rubbish bag and lastly a backpack to hold all these items.

Kailash Parikrama or Kora:- Kailash parikrama is the most difficult part of the tour. Mount Kailash is considered the holy abode of Lord Shiva & goddess Parvati. Pilgrims perform a parikrama to show reverence. 
This parikrama or circumambulation of Kailash Parbat includes 53km of walking by foot. It takes 3 days to complete. It includes rough terrain trekking, scaling steep trails, stream crossing, jumping from one boulder to another. Camping is mostly done on the mountainside. 
Kora is used as a term by Tibetans to refer to clockwise circumambulation. The parikrama is believed to sanctify the soul from all bad deeds and a path to salvation. It is generally done in a clockwise direction. Some do it clockwise too due to their personal spiritual beliefs.

Mansarovar lake.

The holy Mansarovar lake is situated at a height of 4556 meters. This lake has been mentioned in many legends and mythological tales. Mansarovar lake spans an area of 350 square feet kilometer with a depth of 300 ft. It creates an enchanting backdrop to the Kailash peak. 
Each year Pilgrims across the world undertake the pious tour of Kailash-Mansarovar. The firm belief of devotees is that the sacred water of the lake purifies the human body.


Mount Kailash. 

Mount Kailash is the peak of the Gangdise Mountains, which are part of the Himalayas in Tibbat. This mountain is located near the sources of some of the largest rivers of Asia. Like the Brahmaputra, Sutlej, Indus, Karnali etc. 
Mansarovar and Rakshash taal is situated near Mt. Kailash. A number of faiths & cults such as Bon, Buddhists, Jains, Hindus consider the place with divine grace. The unusual black granite is considered Shiva linga by the Hindus.


Rakshas Taal.

This is situated at the west of Mansarovar lake & mount Kailash. The Sutlej River originates from the northwest tip of Rakshash Tal. 
It spans an area of 70 sq kilometers. This is located at an altitude of 4,752 meters. This lake is associated with the 10 headed demon character Ravana from Ramayana. 
People believe that he used to dwell here. As per Buddhist believes Lake Mansarovar and Rakshas taal lies in contrast to one another. 
Buddhist people consider the round-shaped lake Mansarovar as the symbol of the bright side of life whereas the crescent-shaped Rakshash taal as darkness. 
The water of this taal is salty. This also is in sharp contrast with the sweet water of Mansarovar.

Gauri Kund.

Gauri Kund is another significant spot to visit on the Mount Kailash tour. This is a popular sightseeing and has connections to several mythological sagas. Gauri Kund is situated at an altitude of 5608 meters.
As described in Shiv Purana, this waterbody is counted as the lake of compassion. The Chota Kailash peak fountain falls on this lake’s surface. Parvati Sarovar is another name of Gauri Kund.
